Every four years, the AIGA (the professional association for design) organizes designers to create moving visuals and videos to stimulate citizens to Get Out the Vote. Any member is able to submit work online for anyone to download, print, and share. The GOTV program has been ongoing for every presidential election since 2004, and has placed more than 100,000 posters in public places and communities across the nation. Willoughby has been a steadfast supporter of AIGA’s Design for Democracy Initiatives and has submitted several pieces as part of the open source collection.
In 2012, Willoughby partner Zack Shubkagel served as National Chair for AIGA’s Get Out the Vote campaign and curated exhibits of posters in Kansas City and at the National AIGA Offices in New York City. Willoughby designed an identity for the 2012 GOTV campaign to encourage AIGA members around the country to submit non-partisan work in the form of print posters, videos and other media.
